What I have learnt so far in the Language Arts Coursework?

Term 1: Learnt about Lamb to the Slaughter
Other learning points: Learnt about inference questions. We are required to write a long piece of "essay" within a short period. In primary school, we were required to write a piece of composition within 40 minutes, but now, we have to write two "essays" within 50 minutes. It really tests our writing speed and on-the-spot thinking.

Term 2: Read about "Village by the Sea"
Other learning points: I learnt more about Anita Desai. She is able to combine major events and significant problems in real life and craft them into an excellent story. The story depicts a family who encounters many problems, but they stay together to overcome the problems together.

Term 3: Taught about unseen poetry
Other learning points: We were also taught how to analyse a poem properly and how to answer questions related to the poem, as well as the different "languages" in a poem, such as metaphors and similes.

Overall, I learnt many skills, such as inference and analyzing questions. However, I need to master the art of aceing them.

Inside the Minds of Animals

Recently, I read an article in the "TIME" magazine, named "Inside the Mind of Animals".It is about how smart certain animals are, and also raising questions about how we treat them. is fascinating and an eye opener into the minds of animals. You never know what an animal is thinking of as it looks at you. It could well be studying human beings too?

Kanzi, a 29 year old bonobo, is very talkative. He can build thoughts and sentences, even conjugate, all by pointing. The paper sheets he points at, includes not just easy nouns, but also concept words, as well as grammatical elements, like: "-ing" and "-ed" which signifies tense. To Kanzi, Slow + Lettuce = Kale It takes a long time to chew Kale, so Kanzi named it accordingly.

Crows and other corvids excel at tool use, a function of both clever brain wiring and the bird's complex social structure. If creativity lives in the cerebral cortex, why are crows and jays, better tool users than nearly all non-human species.

Orangutans have a very strong sense of the difference between self and others,so they will preen at their own reflection. It is easy to study the brain and behavior of an animal, but subtler cognitive abilities are much harder to map.

Elephants are familial and appear to mourn their dead. If they find other elephant bones, they will gently examine the skulls. Many questions have aroused - Can they feel? Do they experience empathy and compassion? Can they love or care or hope or grieve? And what does that say about how we treat them?

So who is the smartest out of all? The great apes and cetaceans are the smartest, followed by the corvids. They are under the "very smart" rank. Social carnivores and herd animals are under the "sort of smart" ranks. Bivalves have no smarts to speak of; may well lack even consciousness.

National Day Celebration

It is going to be a long weekend for me.... National Day is just round the corner, Everyone is preparing for it - hanging Singapore flags outside their houses, planning for the National Day Parade, catching up with friends.

The school organised a National Day celebration yesterday. It was packed with activities. It started off with the singing of National anthem and reciting the pledge. Somehow, this was different from the daily routine. I felt an extreme pride as I did that.

After which, we proceeded to the Kah Kee Hall for a concert. The concert was truly amazing, with different performances by some selected CCA groups - Wushu, Gymnastics and many more.

There was the NDP quiz where both students and teachers participated. We also sang some National Day songs, along with the choir group.

The "Don't Forget the Lyrics" was the highlight of the day, 3 students and 3 teachers were selected to take part. They were supposed to pick number with each representing a National Day Song. They had to sing the song they picked, with many blanks for them to fill in the lyrics.

The concert came to an end at about 10.30am. We were encouraged to make use of this opportunity to go back to our primary schools to visit our ex-teachers and ex-classmates. This must be part of remembering our roots. I thought this was a very nice gesture on part of Hwa Chong.

What a day it had been! It is a very long weekend, I am going to make use of this time to revise for my upcoming tests in the next two weeks...

Snapshotland

The title suggests that:
1. The island is very nice.

2. Everyone enjoys to go there.

3. There are many visitors at that island.

4. Snapshotland looks new everytime, no matter what happens.

5. It is a perfect toursit attraction.

The striking words are sepia, gingham pinafores and bonnets.

Many adjectives are used in the poem and the people in the poem are described very well.

Most words in the poem are used to describe the people there and the scenery there.

The poet is 'speaking' the poem. The poem is a reflective poem about the scenery at Snapshotland. The author is thinking abot the scenery at Snapshotland and he seems to be "urging" people to go there for a holiday. At the starting, the poem describes the scenery, but further down, it starts to describe the people there. The poem is describing the scenery of Snapshotland and that it is a good destination for a holiday.

September 2008 Economy in Crisis

Recently, I stumbled upon an article on the 2008 Wall Street Blues. I now have a better understanding of what triggered the economic crisis - subprime mortgages. This happened when banks created subprime mortgages for people, who would not be able to afford them otherwise. When they failed to make payments, the banks ended their mortgages and took ownership of their houses. As the banks tried to sell the houses, many other properties were worth much less than the loans themselves. The bank lost money and the value of houses dropped further. This is the dominoes fall impact. Big banks collapsed and markets fell over time.

As such, consumers around the world cut down their expenses and made the situation worse, triggering a worldwide recession. The cost of the US Treasury bailout is $700 billion - this is a whopping $2300 for every man, woman and child in the United States!

My parents had their jobs, so we were not affected, but we still watched our expenses carefully. I hope that this will not happen again.

South Africa World Cup 2010

After more than a month long of showdown, the World Cup came to an end. In this series, there were many upsets and surprises. For example, the defending champion and runner-up, Italy and France respectively, were knocked out in the early stages. Uruguay, which was the dark house, actually finished in 4th place, due to a controversial handball in their quarter-final match with Ghana.

I support Holland, and thus I tried my best to watch all their matches. However, due to the early school hours, I can only watch the weekend matches. The final was an exception - my parents allowed me to watch it, as my favourite team was playing. It helped that I only have to reach school at 9am the next day! So, I stayed up for the match. The match was very interesting, as each team had many opportunities to score, but both did not cherish their chances. It was until 116th minute that the Spanish broke the deadlock and scored a goal. At that point in time, Holland's hopes of winning the World Cup was dashed.

Minutes after, it was the prize-giving ceremony. The Spanish team was presented with the trophy. I was heartbroken, but it was a wonderful season for Holland - being unbeatable until the finals, when they lost to Spain 1-0.

Book Review 2 - Artemis Fowl

Book: Artemis Fowl
Author: Eoin Colfer

Artemis Fowl is probably responsible for every major crime of the new century. If you have not heard of him, it is better not to hear about someone like him. In this story, when he encountered the Fairy people, he hatched a plot to restore his family's fortune. He discovered that there was a world below ground full of mind-blowing technology. After kidnapping Captain Holly Short, he almost triggered a war.

Favourite part of the story: It was when Captain Holly Short and the troll were fighting. It was really action packed and you could even feel that there is sound effect, as you read on!

Why I like this story: This story has many sub plots. It also describes how smart and quick-witted Artemis Fowl was to hatch a plot to get his family fortune back. He is very calm and that helps him overcome all dangers.

Book Review 1 - The Roar

Title: The Roar
Author: Emma Clayton

Plot: At the beginning, we learnt that twins Ellie and Mika lived in unique place - the future. They were separated from the plague animals that lived beyond. Ellie had been kidnapped and her family was told that she was dead. However, Mika would not accept the fact that Ellie was dead, he felt that she was still around. He was determined to find go in search of the truth and look for her. Over time, both of them realised that their concrete world was actually built on deception. And they must get out of the web of lies.

Favourite part: My favourite part of the story is at the beginning. It was when Ellie had escaped from Mal Gorman and his kidnappers and was on her way to reuniting with her family. She was controlling a Pod fighter, while the kidnappers were giving chase. She braved dangers with the ultimate goal of wanting to meet her family. I admired her guts and quick-wits.

Why I like this storybook: The reason is very simple. The storyline is very exciting with many twists and turns. It is also very action-packed. It keeps one in suspense, not knowing what to expect next, with dangers looming everywhere.

Poem - My primary school days

It was the best time
I ever had,
playing with my friends
was a happy thing to do.

There may be misunderstandings
but we managed to clear the air,
we accidentally kicked each other during soccer time
however we apologised and continue playing.

During recess, we would think of
things to do,
there were many options
and so, it was hard to decide.

Primary school life
is the least stressful,
we could play all day
and our parents would not care.

Figurative Language

Fast rode the knight by Stephen Crane

Fast rode the knight
With spurs, hot and reeking,
Ever waving an eager sword,
"To save my lady!"
Fast rode the knight,
And leaped from saddle to war.
Men of steel flickered and gleamed
Like riot of silver lights,
And the gold of the knight's good banner
Still waved on a castle wall.
. . . . .
A horse,
Blowing, staggering, bloody thing,
Forgotten at foot of castle wall.
A horse
Dead at foot of castle wall.

1. Figurative language is used in this poem, such as "like riot of silver lights", "a horse dead at foot of castle wall" and "fast rode the knight with spurs, hot and reeking". The type of figurative language used here are hyperbole, simile and symbolism. The poet chose to use these figurative language to describe how the knight looked, what was the men of steel compared to and what happened to the horse in the end.

2. I like this poem because of its descriptive words. It clearly describes the people, horse and the knight. For example, "Ever waving an eager sword", it describes the sword with the word "eager", which tells us that the knight was prepared to fight enemies to save his lady. Another reason is because of the way the poet depicts the entire process of the riot. It is very clear and readers will not be confused when they read the poem. Last but not least, the use of figurative language. The poet uses figurative language to make his poem more interesting and it attracted me. He uses it at the appropriate time, and thus making his poem more exciting.

Annual Sports Meet

12x200m relay is new to me!

This was totally different from my previous sports meets, where the focus was on telematches and friendly sports activities. It was never so competitive!

I volunteered for this relay, as I like the team effort. I am not a runner, so this event is just right for me, neither too long nor too short. Out of the 4 teams, we were already lagging at the 3rd position, right from the start. We caught up in the mid of the relay, but soon lost the lead again. At the last leg, we lost by just a mere 0.01 second and slipped to the last position. We were disappointed but the team spirit was held high. We knew that we did our best, but we lacked practice.

We stayed on to cheer for Zhen Ning and Winston, who were running the 3km race. I admire their stamina for taking part in more than one event, on the same day. We must practice and be more prepared next year!

YOG and sportsmanship

What event is taking place between 14 August and 26 August in Singapore? It is the Youth Olympic Games! The values are excellence, friendship and respect. Everyone is supposed to execute these values in all sporting events. My interpretation for these values are as follows: Strive for perfection in everything, make friends in sporting activities and have respect for one another during the competitions.

Another value that can be added on is sportsmanship. It means to celebrate victory as a team and accept defeat gracefully. It also means to respect your own team-mates as well as your opponents.

Sportsmanship is not shown in the recent rugby furore between ACS(I) and St'Andrews. The post-game scuffle and pitch invasion after ACS(I) defeated St'Andrews 8-7 had unleashed plenty of debate. In this case, both parties crossed the sportsmanship line. Two wrongs do not make one right. Both parties were at fault, as it was not right to insult one's parents and it was also wrong to retaliate.

Sometimes, schools put too much pressure on students to perform exceptionally well in competitions, causing stress. So, temper blows when the team loses. Contact sports are naturally more aggressive, so players must learn to control their temper. Vulgarities and violence should not be allowed in any sports. I think that schools must inculcate athletic values in students. If schools do not bother to teach the students, then sportsmanship will soon be outdated.

Although I play basketball, I had never been in a sticky situation and I hope I never face any!any!

Interpol red notice of arrest against Ionescu suspended

I cannot believe this! How can Ionescu escape arrest after being proven guilty of the hit-and-run accident. How can Romania let him go scot-free? Whatsmore, he is still spouting nonsense about the Singapore judicial system! Even the other diplomats felt that he had given them a bad name.

There seemed to be a disagreement between Romania and Singapore as to whether he had diplomatic immunity at the time of the accident last December. Two weeks ago, it was reported that Romanian prosecutors had seized his apartment in Bucharest as a hedge against potential compensation claims if he was convicted. Now it seemed that Romanian Police had informed Interpol that the competence to prosecute him remains with Romania.

I hope that the Romanian Authorities take a fair stand in their criminal investigations.

Proposal to change the weighting of mother tongue languages in PSLE

Ministry of Education is reviewing the proposal to change the weighting of Mother Tongue languages in PSLE. So now, the big question is to cut or not to cut the weighting?

Personally, I feel that the weighting should not be reduced. The existing 25% weighting is not a lot, so it will be even lesser if it is further reduced. There is no incentive for students to put in the efforts to master the mother tongue languages. This should not be the case!

For me, as a Chinese, it is my responsibility to learn Chinese as it is my heritage. It can be of good use in the future when I travel to China to start a business. It is also a bonding language among Chinese.

A good education stress on bilingualism, at least in Asia. So, there is no shortcut to this. The other school of thought is that children will be less stressful and more willing to learn if they are not penalised when they do not do well. But, students are practical - if there is lesser marks, they will put in lesser efforts and focus on those subjects with higher weighting.

In conclusion, I feel that there is no need to cut the weighting of mother tongue languages, causing everyone to be affected by this. One solution is to make the syllabus easier, so that it is not so painful to grasp the languages.

World Book Day

What is World Book Day actually? Many people did not know about its existence and thus, it is quite an eye-opener. This is a event organised by UNESCO on Apr 23, to promote reading.

I like reading, but I am a lazy reader. So, I hardly read thick books and long novels. Personally, I prefer to read short stories, comics and magazines such as Reader Digest and Discovery Channel for the rich and deep information. Why? I can select the articles I like and do not need to spend a lot of time to read chapter by chapter.

I feel that World Book Day is just a symbolic day. It really does not matter which day it falls on. Reading should be cultivated from young and we should read throughout the year.

Our school is also celebrating World Book Day tomorrow. There are many activities held, such as writing competition, wrap-the-door-with-a-book-cover and costume contests. The highlight is a visit of the National Library Board's mobile library bus. The school encourages us to take part in these contests actively, to spread the love for reading.

In line with this week, Mr Lundberg also used the World Book Day's theme, as the situational writing test topic.

I certainly look forward to tomorrow's activities.

My thoughts on Week 4 lessons

Last week, Mr Lundberg was on a one week's leave. So, he gave us some assignments to complete. I managed to complete all on time, but some of my classmates were not able to finish all, due to other commitments.

We were supposed to select assignments, according to our learning styles, after which we had to post them in our blogs. I attempted these learning styles: Linguistic, Musical, Naturalist and Intrapersonal. Even though some of them are not my top learning styles, I decided to select them, as I wanted to try something different.

Out of all chosen, I felt that "Musical" is very fun. Why? I had to look through many websites to find a good ambient music that suit the first five chapters of "Village by The Sea". There were not many good websites to choose the music from, and thus after finding the perfect song, I heaved a sigh of relief. I am glad my music background helps to some extent. Now, I understand why my mum constantly nags at me to practise my piano pieces. :)

It was not easy to find concise recipes of chapati and jalebi. Most websites provided too long a recipe. I had to figure out the differences of the different food, based on what I gathered from the recipes.

Overall, I enjoyed the online class assignments as it was refreshing. Instead of sitting in a classroom, we had the opportunity to explore different websites for information. I hope that there will be more online class assignments in the future. Maybe, Mr Lundberg can let us "auto-pilot" more often!

Ambient music

This is the link to the ambient music that I selected for the first five chapters of "The Village by The Sea"
http://cantonbecker.com/music/white-noise-sleep-sounds/ambient.html
After going to this link, click on "Girl in the Bubble" at the bottom half page to download the song.

Do you know why I choose this piece of music? The main reason is that the tempo and rhythm of this music suits Lila's feelings at the beginning of the story. She was at her wits end, not knowing how to get out of her family's crisis.

The slow pace is like her thinking process, figuring out what to do next. The music is also very grave, which suits her depressed mood. As the song's title suggests, she is like a girl in a bubble, waiting to burst the bubble to start a new life. The music does not have a solid ending, which leaves many questions without closure, just like her life in the first part of the book.

Chapati, roti prata, jalebi and you tiao

Yummy Yummy! Four different food, four different flavors. Two of which are my personal favorites. Perhaps, the other two will make it to my faves too, after I figure out the recipes.

I like Roti Prata very much. Since it is very oily, I try to limit my intake. What are the differences between chapati and roti prata? Chapati is served with meat and vegetables, while Roti Prata can be taken plain, with eggs, onions etc. The latter is even served with ice-cream at some restaurants. Some eat Roti Prata with curry, others take them with some sugar. I think Chapati is more healthy as the amount of oil or ghee is lesser.

Here is a simple recipe to make 8 Chapati :
- 2 cups Wheat Flour, 1 tsp Ghee, 1 tsp Salt, Water to knead dough

The steps are :
1. Mix ghee, salt, wheat flour and adequate amount of water to knead smooth dough.
2. Leave it for an hour.
3. Make equal sized balls, smear them with dry flour and roll them out on a rolling board.
4. Heat a griddle. Put the chapati on it.
5. Moderately roast both the sides of chapati on griddle.

Next to talk about Jalebi and You Tiao. Jalebi is a fried sweet dipped in sugar, while You Tiao is a long deep-fried dough, without any sugar content. The latter is probably more filling.

Here is the recipe for Jalebi, with the ingredients consisting of 2 cups All Purpose Flour, 1-1/2 tbsp Rice flour, 1/4th tsp Baking powder, 2 tbsp Curd, 3 cups Sugar, 2-1/2 cups Water, 1/2 tsp powdered Cardamon, Ghee or Vegetable oil.

The steps are :
1. Mix the flour, rice flour, baking powder, curd in a bowl.
2. Mix well, add water and whisk until smooth.
3. Set aside for about 2 hours to ferment.
4. Whisk thoroughly before use.
5. Prepare sugar syrup. Add cardamon powder
6. Heat oil in a heavy bottomed pan or kadhai.
7. Pour the batter in a steady stream into the kadhai to form coils. Make 4-5 at a time.
8. Deep fry them until they are golden and crisp all over but not brown.
9. Remove from the kadhai and drain on kitchen paper and immerse in the sugar syrup.
10. Leave for at least 4-5 minutes so that they soak the syrup and serve hot.

Interview with Lila

Hi Lila, I am doing a write-up for my school magazine about a child in a village. Your village head suggested that I talk to you, as you love the village and has stayed for a while. I have some interview questions that I like to get your responses on.

1. Can you tell me more about the village life?
Even though village life is not the perfect living for many people, it has a peaceful pace and it not as stressful as life in the city. I like the sea, the smell of the harvest and the chatter of the fowl. My life is carefree and I only worry about my mum's health and where to get money for the next meal. Other than that, I spend my spare time trying new recipes to make the basic food interesting.

2. Why did you leave school at such a young age?
There are many reasons. Firstly, due to poverty, my parents could not afford to support all of us in school. Next, my mother is very ill and my father is a drunkard who does not bother to find a job. Therefore, I have to take care of the family while my brother fished.

3. Tell me about your relationship with Hari?
I love Hari but we never have a chance to play together often, as we have different responsibilities looking after the family. Hari has indeed grown up and is more mature now. I admire him for his courage in wanting to go to Bombay to work.

4. Have you ever thought of going to Bombay with Hari?
I would really hope to do so, but it is impossible. If Hari and I go to Bombay together, who will look after my sisters and mother? Like what I said, my father is a drunkard and does not care about the plight of the entire family. He even hits my mother when he is drunk. If I leave, who will stop him when he starts hitting my mother?

5. In conclusion, do you like the kind of life you are leading right now?
I like the life now, although I wish for the better. Even though we may be facing a lot of hardship now, I believe that we are able to overcome all the hardship and lead a better life in the future.

Thank you for your time today, Lila! I am happy that you are the character in my story. I will share the article with you when it is published.

Hari's Journal

Lila just told me that father was drinking again and he did not even bother to find a job to support the family. When he was drunk, he started shouting and hitting mum. Mum's health worsened by the days. Our family was struggling very hard to live on. It seemed like, as the only son of the family, I would have to find a job.

Ramu just updated me that a factory was being built and starting up. All of us should have no problem getting jobs there to support our families. Wondered if this was true? Else, I have to travel to Bombay to look for a high-salary job, enough to cope with all the family expenses.

If I go to Bombay, Lila would be left to fend for herself and take care of the family. But ... if I stay on in the village, we would continue to struggle and there might not be food on the table soon. God - please tell me what should I do? Please show me the right path. It is tough to make a perfect decision at this point of time.

What matters now is to earn enough money for the entire family and keep the family intact! I will fly to Bombay tomorrow. It should be a fresh start for everyone and I will return with my head high...

Euthanasia

I just finished reading two chapters on Euthanasia in "The Straits Times Page2Primer". This book published all the interesting Straits Times' commentaries and news analyses.

In both chapters, the writers were either partially supportive or against Euthanasia as it is not something to rush into. Instead, it should be discussed fully and thought through carefully. Euthanasia, which is also known as "mercy killing" or "physician-assisted suicide", means that a terminally ill person may request and be given a lethal injection or take a deadly drug, to die.

This is practised in the Netherlands and the US state of Oregon and Washington. In Singapore, debate around this topic often centred around controlling medical costs and not wanting to be a burden to others.

Personally, I am against Euthanasia and hope that it will not be carried out in Singapore in the future. Everybody has the right to live on, even when they are in critical condition. Only if they are really suffering and they are very conscious and alert when they make the decision, they should be given the choice to end their lives. The Advance Medical Directives is good as it allows one to decide on extraordinary life-sustaining treatment.

Literature Test

Recently, we sat for our literature test, many of us find it the literature test hard, as the time given to complete the test was not enough. Personally, I feel that learning literature is important. We take stories of characters and apply it to everyday life. In the test, we were forced to think about what is going through each character's mind and his/her possible feelings at that point of time. We also get to learn how to cite evidence to support our deduction. This skill ties back to the 5Ws and 1H taught in our primary schools. I look forward to more literature lessons and hope to be able to catch up with the flow of the stories and grasp the story line with less effort.

Home learning (Language Arts)

Personally, I like the Language Arts home-learning project very much. There were many question options, depending on the individual's learning styles. The time planning for the home-based learning was just right and I had sufficent time to complete the assignment, unlike some other subjects which I am still struggling with, today. The only difficulty that I encountered was with the voice recording upload to my Language Arts blog. For the next home-learning session, I hope to spend some time on comprehension skills and techniques.

Comprehension assignment

Recently,Mr Lundberg gave us a comprehension assignment and we were supposed to complete it at home. Completing it was kind of tedious for me,as there were many words in the passage that I did not understand and Ancient history wars was something that I did not appreciate much. I took about an hour or so to complete it, however I only got a low mark of 16/25 for that assignment. I was disappointed. Fortunately, Mr Lundberg gave us another chance for better scores. He passed us another comprehension assignment. He explained that if the entire class did better this time, he would take our scores this time. I decided to put in more efforts and used more time to complete this assignment. I also checked through it thoroughly.I hope to do better this time, as it accounts for 20% of our Language Arts score this term, and it would affect our MSG.

The lady or the tiger (ending)

Which door should I open? The princess pointed to the left door...... Knowing her semi-barbaric personality, I knew that if she could not get what she wanted, she would rather I die.I saw her right eyelid twitching and that was she always do when she lied. Immediately, I saw through her scheme.
I gambled with my life and was on a path of no return.I decided to open the right door. Out came from that door was a beautiful lady.
The princess was crestfallen and she was filled with jealousy. She could not bear to see her lover with another woman. Now,she started to cherish the time they spent together.
"Oh coward! How can you inflict such pain on me!" A sense of betrayal started to fill the princess. The lover looked up and saw a rainbow.

Crime and Punishment

Transcript of interview on Crime & Punishment

Hi Mum, would like to conduct an interview on crime and punishment. This is in relation to a language arts article "Lamb to the Slaughter" where the focus is on a housewife killing her husband. Many of my questions are about murder and manslaughter, and the punishments.

Q1.In layman terms, please describe your understanding of crime?
A1.I think crime simply means a breach of laws, it can be petty or major. Different crimes carry different punishments, according to the severity and the legal laws.

Q2.Why do you think crime punishment is necessary?
A2.There is a price for everything, punishment is the price you pay for breaking the laws. With punishment, it would deter other people from committing the same crime.

Q3.Do you know the differences between murder and manslaughter?
A3.Yes. Murder is killing with aforethought, meaning there is an intention upfront to kill. Manslaughter is usually done in a heat of passion without upfront intention.

Q4.Given the differences, should the punishment be the same?
A4.No. A life for a life- this should be the punishment for murder. Depending on the justification for manslaughter, the punishment is usually less than that for murder.

Q5.What is your advice for teenagers with regards to crime and punishment?
A5.There must be reasons for law and justice, therefore obey the laws. If you commit a crime, reflect and own up. After the punishment, lead a new life. Never put yourself in a situation that makes you more vulnerable to committing a crime.

Thank you for your time today, Mum. I have a better understanding of murder and manslaughter.

P/S : Mr Lundberg, I was not able to upload the voice recording. Will save it in a disk for you. Thanks.

Lamb to the Slaughter (Mary Maloney)

Diary Entry, at 11pm

Finally, they left after eating the leg of the lamb. The weapon and evidence were gone. Imagine my fear when they said that they wanted to grab sandwiches, instead of eating the cooked lamb. I could not control my giggle when they said that the weapon could be right under their noses. Phew!
I could not understand myself, I am so devoted to Patrick and loved him wholeheartedly, but I did not seem to feel any pain when I hit him so hard. Even seeing the body, I did not shed any tears. Why? Did my love for him change over time? It could just be hatred that he was leaving the baby and I. Why a divorce? Did he have another woman outside?
The inspector is going to come again tomorrow, I must prepare myself and not let the cat out of the bag. What questions would he ask me? Did Patrick have any enemies? Why didn't he remove his coat before getting a drink? Should I declare that a baseball bat was missing?
What if they found my fingerprints on the furniture? Can they prove that I was a murderer? Is this murder or manslaughter? It is manslaughter- I did not plan this. It is Patrick's fault for being so insensitive to me. What is going to happen to the baby when I am in jail? How will I face the baby when he asks about his father?
Enough, enough! Life without Patrick is just going to be fine.

Mary

Learning styles

Based on the circular chart, I think I am more interpersonal. I know myself quite well too, ie. intrapersonal. Definitely, I am not very nature smart.

In the past, my learning approach was to focus on taking notes when the teacher was talking. I seldom think out "loud", except when I was doing Math questions - so that I would not lose count of the numbers.

Now, music helps me relax, and puts me in the mood of studying and enables me to figure out the questions calmly. When I need help in my work, I will either ask my parents or go online to check for information. Most of the time, I like to work in pairs or a group, so that the job can be split and we can exchange ideas.

I also like to work and think quietly on my own, in order to concentrate. When it is noisy, I cannot focus and will tend to make more mistakes. Most of all, it is easy for me to learn about topics/subjects that interest me. I will absorb more when I work with my hands, such as science experiments and many more.
